MAFS' Cameron Merchant says TV wedding to Jules Robinson 'wasn't about the money'

MAFS’ Cameron Merchant insists his televised wedding was ‘NOT about the money’ – as Jules Robinson bizarrely says ‘no one even noticed the cameras’

Married At First Sight’s Cameron Merchant and Jules Robinson have defended their televised wedding, which they are believed to have been paid handsomely for.

Cameron told WHO magazine on Thursday: ‘It’s not about the money or anything like that. It’s purely about the love and support we’ve had from the public.’

After finally saying ‘I do’ on Sunday, Jules added that none of their 170 guests ‘even noticed’ the Channel Nine camera crew or producers.

Jules continued: ‘It was our day. We did it our way. We did it with our good friends and we didn’t want anything to take away our happiness.

‘We got married the first time on TV, it’s not like we’re a closed book.’

The couple married at Beta Bar in Sydney’s CBD on November 17, but the ceremony was overshadowed by Jules’ decision to dump her MAFS co-star, Melissa Lucarelli, as a bridesmaid several weeks ago.

As the wedding aired on A Current Affair on Tuesday night, Mick Gould led the live reactions from former stars of Married At First Sight.

The 32-year-old hobby farmer shared a video to Instagram of himself turning off his television and yelling at host Tracy Grimshaw: ‘Oh bloody… who gives a f…. f**k off!’

Mick wasn’t the only MAFS cast member to upload their reactions to the ‘wedding of the year’, with the likes of Jessika Power also offering their thoughts on social media.

The 28-year-old rolled her eyes while watching her television, before taking a swipe at Jules and Cameron’s rumoured payday.

‘I wish MAFS and A Current Affair paid me $75,000 to act like a complete t**t on TV,’ she wrote.

Dino Hira had a positive response despite not attending the wedding himself.

After watching the ceremony, Dino said in a video supplied to Daily Mail Australia: ‘Congratulations, Jules and Cam, Mr and Mrs Merchant.

‘I’m genuinely so happy for you guys to blossom into such an amazing couple, who are now husband and wife!

‘It’s so nice to see that out of the whole experiment, at least one couple made it. I cannot wait to see a family come out of this. I couldn’t be happier.’
